[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]From the week of July 16 to 20, a team of facilitators of Qualitas of Life Foundation (QoLF) traveled to the northwest of the state of New York to provide the workshop “Get Ready: migratory processes and my money” in five localities in that area in collaboration with Agri-Business Child Development (ABCD) within the framework of the Upstate Week of Financial Education.
68 people participated in the workshops provided by QoLF, of which 75.8% were women and 24.2% men. The majority of the population that we attended with the financial education workshops works in the agricultural and livestock industry of that area. It should be noted that of the participants, 73% of the population were of Mexican origin and the rest from Puerto Rico and Guatemala.
The workshops were held at the ABCD centers, an organization that works on early childhood education and social services to the children of farm workers in the north of the state.
The locations where we provided the workshops of the Upstate Week of Financial Education, are areas where there are not many financial institutions and where few people are banked. So it is important to find strategies and solutions so that the community we serve in that area has knowledge of the basic rights and prevention of financial fraud in the United States, as well as the importance of have an emergency plan in case an immigration process occurs such as deportation. Information that will allow our community to be prepared and make better decisions with a concrete plan of action.
