Alexis E Rovzar was born in Mexico City on July 23, 1951, and was the eldest of four children. His parents were Alexis Eugene Rovzar and Maria Elena de la Torre. Alexis lived a happy life for 60 years until his death on the morning of Saturday, January 7, 2012, at his home in Mexico City where he was, fortunately, surrounded by the affection of his family.
Alexis married Marcela Orvañanos de Rovzar and together they enjoyed 39 years of marriage. They had four adorable children, who are now adults: Marcela Rovzar de González, Monica Rovzar de Saad, Mariana Rovzar de García and Alexis Rovzar Orvañanos. The family has since grown: first with three magnificent sons-in-law: Carlos González, Omar Saad and Jaime García; And now with four beautiful granddaughters: Natalia Gonzáles Rovzar, Ana Saad Rovzar, Pia García Rovzar and Paula Eugenia.
We will remember Alexis for his kindness and noble character, he always strived to help people achieve their personal, spiritual and professional goals. Alexis was very respected and admired, and left a very deep mark on the hearts of many people with whom he was close to and influenced for the better thanks to the positive example that Alexis personified of: life, love, friendship and honesty.
Alexis was a partner of White & Case, LLC in Latin America, where he founded the Mexico City office (between 1995-2005). He promoted pro bono activities and corporate social responsibility throughout the firm and played a key role in the development of philanthropic culture in Mexico and Latin America.
Alexis also served on the Board of Directors of several multinational companies such as Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA), Coca-Cola Femsa (KOF), Scotiabank Canada, Grupo Bimbo, Grupo COMEX, Compañía Occidental Mexicana (COMSA), Grupo ACIR, Appleseed, The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Qualitas of Life Foundation, Procura, The Board of International Overseers of Tufts University, NFL México, Patronato del Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, Momentum Real Estate Partners and was president of the “Board of Governors at the Center for Philanthropy of Indiana University” in Indianapolis.
Alexis’ funeral took place on Monday, January 10, 2012 in Mexico City, where part of his ashes were scattered, followed by another ceremony in New York on February 25, 2012. That way, Alexis bode is farewell to the two places in the world that he treasured most.
Alexis was a man of grace, full of charm and warmth, extremely intelligent, highly regarded and always committed to improving the lives of everyone around him. Both his family and his many friends and admirers miss him very much, but they know that the best of him still lives on daily in their hearts and in their memory.
Donations received through this fund will be used to further advance the mission of Qualitas of Life and make Alexis’ dream of expanding the reach of Qualitas’ programming beyond the five boroughs of New York City.
Qualitas of Life Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides basic financial education to Hispanic individuals and their families, in order to foster their financial security and improve their standard of living.
